Police are asking for the public's help in identifying this child found dead at a Lake Lavon park April 15.
At a press conference at Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County Friday morning, Det. Venece Perepiczka of Wylie PD presented a photograph of the boy found dead on Skyview Dr. April 15 and asked for the public’s help in identifying the body.
“We’re asking for your help in starting the process,” she said.
The photograph was taken of the child and enhanced for public distribution. Perepiczka said he is now believed to be 6 years of age, with brown hair and brown eyes, 39 inches tall. His weight is 28 pounds.
Perepiczka said the child had “significant medical needs” and it appeared that he had been fed through a feeding tube.
She said it appears, preliminarily, that he was only in the location, across the street from a park near Lake Lavon, for 24 hours.
Perepiczka said WPD is working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; it was that organization that provided the distributed version of the photograph.
The police would not comment on whether the boy was clothed or not when discovered, but they did confirm that he was not wearing the clothing depicted in the photograph.
A cause of death has not yet determined, but Perepiczka said there was “no obvious trauma to the body.”
Perepiczka said WPD received a 911 call when a lawn mowing service discovered the body at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
She said Wylie PD is working with the Collin County Task Force to interview in-home and other child care providers to see if anyone knows anything about the boy, who obviously had “special needs.”
The task force is comprised of local police departments, working in conjunction with the Children’s Advocacy Center. The center’s executive director, Lynne McLean, said a “multi-disciplinary collaborate approach by professionals” is being used to seek more information about the child and who he is. She said it was “horrifyingly tragic” and unusual for a child to be discovered with no clue as to his identity.
Anyone with information about the boy is asked to call 1-800-THE LOST or 1-800-843-5678.
