Looks like the national health care there isn't working out too well...

Britain Plans to Decentralize Health Care

Practical details of the plan are still sketchy. But its aim is clear: to shift control of England’s $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level. Under the plan, $100 billion to $125 billion a year would be meted out to general practitioners, who would use the money to buy services from hospitals and other health care providers.

The plan would also shrink the bureaucratic apparatus, in keeping with the government’s goal to effect $30 billion in “efficiency savings” in the health budget by 2014 and to reduce administrative costs by 45 percent. Tens of thousands of jobs would be lost because layers of bureaucracy would be abolished.

Britain Plans to Decentralize Health Care Empty From National Healthcare to the Doctors' Plans?

From National Healthcare to the Doctors' Plans?

This UK ("just walk away Renee, you won't see us open up our doors" Mad health plan) has been getting a lot of attention lately, and the Telegraph UK has been vocal in deriding the current system that results in long waits.

I think that the Doctors' emphasis is a good way to modify the plan Like a Star @ heaven , but the implementation of it will be very difficult. geek

You know, I just had a situation where I voted with my feet to get out of one plan and go to another. The last straw was that the managers of the losing plan did not seem to see any need to cover a sleep apnea study or C-PAP device. I was just on the cusp of being able to switch to plan that realized how damaging it could be to stop breathing during sleep, and finally, when my husband landed a job after being laid off a couple years back, I was able to get away from the cheap-skate type of plan -- the plan that makes sure you show up at doc's only if you're turning purple and can no longer utter your name.

Reading the new plan, I see that while they are a Bit better, it's an "itty bit" better. Wouldn't dare to book an appointment if my symptoms didn't rank with a real ucky diagnosis code. Everyone's a doctor now. Lancing boils - no probelmo! Keeping watch for a brain bleed by inspecting pupil dilation - a cinch! Such is life. Make sure you buy the right Home medical book study
