Hi All. I thought some of you might like to see creative journalism at its worse. The term “mega quake” was not used by scientists. If you read the papers put out by scientists in regards to the quake you will not see “mega” used anywhere.
The article in the news media is nothing more then creative journalism. They have to sell news so they use a lot of hype to get people to buy.
Note the last paragraph in the article posted below.
“Because the magnitude scale is logarithmic, a 7.5 quake is 1,000 times stronger than a 7.2 quake.
The new Scripps study includes maps that show the San Jacinto and southern San Andreas Fault lines bracketing the Imperial and Coachella valleys, and a curlicue-shaped Imperial Fault beneath El Centro and Mexicali, home to more than 1 million people.”
There is no way a 7.5 quake can be 1,000 times stronger then a 7.2 quake. Take Care...Don
