Grin despite the Hard Grip - Or, When you're Smiling
I've found myself using those frownie muscles more frequently -- like yesterday when local newspaper headlines announced that crime has gone up 21 percent this year over last.
When you have the Grin and bear it philosophy, though, you DO have to come up wih strategies about how to be happy within the grip of a recession causing such hardship that a large proportion of your fellow urban inhabitants have just come apart at the seams.
So, as it gets tough, I notice I find this one helpful:
If any of you have things that help you feel better, then feel free to share!

Sirach 2: My son, if you come forward to serve the Lord,
prepare yourself for temptation.
Set your heart right and be steadfast,
and do not be hasty in time of calamity.
Cleave to him and do not depart,
that you may be honored at the end of your life.
Accept whatever is brought upon you,
and in changes that humble you be patient.
For gold is tested in the fire,
and acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.
Trust in him, and he will help you;
make your ways straight, and hope in him.
If any of you have things that help you feel better, then feel free to share!
