    Ahhh...

That was so sad to hear about, DearWife.

Always gives me a sinking feeling when the hypothalmus of pets kicks in beyond stopping. Or is it amygdala?  When I read some books by Spencer Quinn (which he tried writing from the perspective of the dog (Chet), who is a sidekick to a detective(Bernie)) I see that he notes that Chet starts his actions before his comprehension fully kicks in.  It's why werewolves are always portrayed so unpredicatably, I suppose -- though that's not saying your dogs are werewolves.

Hope the kitten survives and thrives after getting her bearings back.

Below is an anecdote written from Chet the Dog's perspective:

Spencer Quinn, novelist, wrote:We got on a freeway, then another, traffic stop-and-go at first, which made Bernie’s hands tense up on the wheel, but then it eased and we barreled along, the Porsche making a rumbling roar I loved and sights and smells zipping by so fast it would make your head spin. Mine doesn’t spin, exactly, but I can turn it pretty far back if I want, like really, really far, so that my nose is actually touching my -
“Chet! What the *bleep* are you doing?”
I whipped my head around straight, sat up tall and still, eyes front, a professional through and through.
    - from Thereby Hangs A Tail.  http://www.chetthedog.com/page/6

Sometimes nobody can really help how it all comes out in the end , it just turns out however it does.

well, if you catch a glimpse of the little kitten, might consider calling it Aliza (joyful) because it was able to move on past the incident.

However, be mindful yourself, because cats have the flaw of imprinting whoever was near them at the moment that injury or fear struck and connecting that person as the "cause" of their harm. And you might be the one that's imprinted.

    Take Care, dear wife !
