April Sturm Brich Los ! 54754523737074706208

That new moon is a faint foreshadowing of the turbulence to come, which arrives in a big way with the April 15 total lunar eclipse. The nominal shock window for a new or full moon is three days before and after the event. But this particular full moon eclipse anchors a geocosmic shock window that extends from a day before the moon’s southward equatorial crossing on April 12, through the lunar eclipse on the 15th, out to the 20th (extended a couple days by the peak lunar declination south of the celestial equator on the 19th).

Just as momentous in its own right as the mid-month lunar eclipse is the April 29 solar eclipse. Solar eclipses have a nominal shock window extending seven days before and after the exact alignment – sometimes longer, depending on any significant lunar factors (e.g. declination extremes, equatorial crossings, lunar perigee) immediately before or after the boundaries of the seven day window. None of these factors applies to either of this year’s solar eclipses, so the April 29 annular eclipse window stretches from April 22 to May 6.

Of course, there’s also the storm and seismic potential associated with this eclipse: extreme tides, and a surge in severe storms with damaging winds and heavy precipitation; as well as an uptick in moderate to severe earthquakes (Magnitude 5 and up) and newsworthy volcanic eruptions. Plan ahead for such eventualities, if you’ll be in areas of special risk. Keep tuned to the weather – especially if you’re traveling or otherwise at the mercy of the elements.

Tsunami alert after 8.2 quake strikes off Chile

    2 April 2014
    BBC

A quake of 8.2 magnitude has struck off northern Chile, triggering a tsunami alert and killing at least five people.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 20:46 local time (23:46 GMT) about 86km (52 miles) north-west of the mining area of Iquique.

Waves of up to 2.1m (6ft) have hit some areas in Chile, and there have been power cuts, fires and landslides.

Tens of thousands of people were evacuated in affected areas, where a state of emergency has been declared.

Chilean TV broadcast pictures of traffic jams as people tried to leave.

Officials said the dead included people who were crushed by collapsing walls or died of heart attacks.

Iquique Governor Gonzalo Prieto told local media that in addition to those killed, several people had been seriously injured.

While the government said it had no reports of significant damage to coastal areas, a number of adobe homes were reported destroyed in Arica.

Tsunami watches - in which the danger of tidal waves is deemed to be less serious - had been in place for Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras.

"Everyone along our coast should be alert and ready," Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa said on Twitter.

Ecuador later reduced its alert but maintained a high level of vigilance for the Galapagos Islands.

High waves hit parts of the Chilean coast within 45 minutes of the quake. Pisagua, Patache and Iquique all saw big waves.

"We have asked citizens to evacuate the entire coast," Chilean home office minister Mahmud Aleuy said.

Evacuations were also ordered in Peru, where waves 2m (6.5ft) above normal forced about 200 people to leave the seaside town of Boca del Rio near the Chilean border, police said.

Chile is one of the most seismically active countries in the world.

Central and southern areas of the country were hit by a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude quake followed by a tsunami that devastated scores of towns in February 2010.

In 1960 an area of Chile south of Concepcion was hit by a 9.5 magnitude which caused about 1,655 deaths and a tsunami in Hawaii and Japan.

The 9.0 magnitude quake that struck Japan on 11 March 2011 caused a devastating tsunami and left more than 15,000 people dead, with more than 3,200 missing.

    Klima Stau !

    "Klima Stau"  = Climate Jam
When too many conflicting climate forecasts all hit the news at the same time.

Did you notice that some articles admitted the Old Farmer's Almanac beat the NOAA climate predictions for 2013?

Right now I'm feeling like we have a climate jam -- people trying to predict the climate based on so many varieties of base datum points that we're just getting mish-mashed into the potato ricer.  We need lots and lots of opinions before we conclude on our own forecast for the week. Or just spit on your finger, raise it up outside, and sense which way the wind is blowing.  Last month and during February it snowed way too often and in right in the face of predictions that snow would not come forth and cover the roadways, which it did with great frequency.

Such a test of the utility of tuning into the forecasters' news channel weather reports has been a motivator, leading me to post here for the record that the wind is blowing in too violently, nearly all the time, lately. and from unpredictable directions.

Last year, in April, the wind blew over the East Coast with a chill in it all the way up till Patriot's Day (which is coming up again, folks, and nobody is allowed backpacks with pressure cookers).  Last year, I was outside freezing my fingers off at the re-enactment of the Minutemen vs the Red Coats for 90 minutes at 5 am., 30 degrees.  Today, it's only Apr 6 and the daylight temperature in Mass. has been cool but not achingly cold like in Maine.

This year, the temperature is wobbling upwards and downwards unpredictably and the rain drops in huge torrents from clouds containing too much of it and that narrowly misses certain areas but deluges other areas. Maine got 3 inches of snow thanks to the polar vortex. We got flooding that dammed up small springs that were iced over, and the water came pouring downstream with a delay... it was quirky.  Indeed a storm is coming, because what is strange news for us in the Northeast can be more freakish in other parts of the country where the weather is expected to periodically come in with violence like tornado alley.

    I can't claim to a seismic prediction.

But I will lay a pollen prediction on the table which relates only to pollen and not to the relatively unpredictable winds.  southern New England will be spared some of the ferocity of the vortex because we'll be wedged in between the Maine polar vortex and the southeastern U.S. atmospheric turbulence. but we won't be spared yellow pollen-laden air wafting in amazing quantities from trees that have been dormant longer than usual and which now fear they are Johnny-come-lately to the equinox and will be puffing out pollen like a coal-fired 1870's locomotive.  So watch out for the pollen hack attack you New England folks that like to do outdoor aerobic exercise !   Thats all my finger in the air and nose to the ground tells me today.   I would like to predict the winds, but I had a scary dream about some massive climate disaster and prefer not to share the map with wind patterns from the dream today. Yours Truly, .... beejean the couch potato.   study

Powerful Mexico earthquake triggers PANIC in capital

    By Tracy Wilkinson
    April 18, 2014, 8:01 a.m.

MEXICO CITY – A powerful and long earthquake shook a wide area of Mexico early Friday, terrifying residents and sending many fleeing into the streets.

The Mexican Seismological Institute said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7, which would make it one of the stronger temblors registered in the city in several years. The epicenter was put near Tecpan, in the coastal state of Guerrero about 180 miles southwest of the capital.

Authorities were looking for damage and injuries. In some areas, telephone cell service was disrupted.
Much of Mexico City was destroyed and more than 10,000 people were killed in a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in 1985, but officials say they have put more safeguards into place since then.

Mayor Miguel Angel Mancerra, who was in the middle of a Good Friday news conference when the quake struck, said “protocols” were being immediately launched in the sprawling capital, which include dispatching helicopters to survey the most vulnerable neighborhoods.

April Sturm Brich Los ! Empty Headache today, persistent

Post  OregonGuy Mon 21 Apr 2014, 1:53 am

Had the woozies associated with some of the bigger quakes. Issues today are fatigue, forgetting what I was about to do that caused me to get out of my chair? Might even call it senior moment swarms :-+

For woo woo stuff the big fleets are eyeballing each other wondering what the other side is going to do. Little do the antagonist realize that a wholesome energy that eclipses anything imaginable is in complete control of the situation. Thank God. Happy Easter!

April Sturm Brich Los ! Empty Wholesome Energy

Post  beejean Thu 24 Apr 2014, 12:11 am

    Wholesome Energy

-Wholesome Energy: Could use some right here, right now.

    Big left ear tones screaming.

Everybody, in many areas I traversed today, were without exception "popping off" with stress groans.
When I see a buildup like this, it's usually prior to some big event which attempts to create a bridge between the increased human angst and the song of the earth.

The word "Psychopomp" just came to me.  The restlessness of the population is drawing in a lot of other side guides that we are incapable of discerning because they are partially hidden.  I'd like things to be wholesome instead of hidden, at least today !

6.6 earthquake off Northern Vancouver Island shakes coastal residents

    No tsunami predicted by authorities

By Matthew Robinson, Vancouver Sun April 23, 2014 11:36 PM

A strong earthquake off the west coast of Vancouver Island shook coastal residents as far away as Metro Vancouver Wednesday evening, thankfully no casualties or major damage were reported to authorities.

The quake registered a magnitude of 6.6, according to the United States Geological Survey, and it happened at 8:10 p.m.

The quake's epicentre was about 94 km south of Port Hardy and 157 km west of Campbell River, according to the USGS, and it occurred at a depth of 11.4 km.

The strong quake was quickly followed by two more aftershocks, according to the USGS.

The first, registering a magnitude of 5.0, came at 8:20 p.m. and the second hit twenty minutes later and registered 4.2. Both were located near the initial epicentre.

Based on information about the earthquake and historic tsunami records, the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center predicted that a tsunami would not follow the quakes.

Port Hardy Mayor Bev Parnham said nobody in that town was injured, but she said “pretty much everyone felt it … it was quite a shake.”

“Our infrastructure is in place and there’s no damage that we’ve been able to see,” she said.

Parnham said Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon was greeting seniors at the Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre, an interpretive centre and fish hatchery, when the earthquake hit.

She said there was no panic, people remained calm, and after the quake ended she left to ensure none of the community's infrastructure was damaged. She said public-works officials even went out to check.

"I think that the honourable lieutenant-governor will remember Port Hardy,'' said Parnham.

Shelley Siemens, a Port Hardy resident, was in her home along with her daughter and boyfriend when the shaking began.

“It was really kind of scary,” she said.

“I was in my bathroom and I have glass sliding doors — I thought they were going to come right out,” said Siemens.

“I ran down the hallway to my boyfriend and I said, ‘what the heck, did you guys feel that?’”

She said it was the second time she had been in an earthquake in Port Hardy, but said this one felt different.

It was brief, but powerful, and felt like it rolled from north to south, she said.

The earthquake and its aftershocks occurred at the Cascadia Subduction Zone near the point where the North American Plate meets the Explorer and Juan de Fuca plates.

At a magnitude of 6.6, the initial quake was strong enough to “cause damage to poorly constructed buildings and other structures” within 100 kilometres, according to information from Natural Resources Canada.

Earthquakes are common off B.C.'s coast, where the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate meets the Pacific tectonic plate, but few are large enough to be felt by humans.

The most recent large quake was in October 2012, when a magnitude 7.8 quake shook Haida Gwaii. There was little damage and no tsunami was generated in that quake.
