Hi All. Just thought some of you would like to see some of the things Petra and I have been doing over the last ten years. Nothing spectacular, but we did learn things some of which you can never find on the internet.

Petra and I have spent a lot of time down at Parkfield. We have gotten know most of the people and they have gotten to know us. This is the bridge you have to cross over to get to Parkfield. You can see how the fault is twisting it. There is another road, but Petra could never survive it.

This is the Parkfield Inn. Petra and I have spent a couple of nights here. One nice thing about the rooms is that there are no phones and no idiot machines.

Another place Petra and I went to was Mammoth Lakes. We had a meeting there with some scientists who want to talk with us. Sorry I can't say anything about what was said as it will be coming out in a book being written. I hope the books makes it out before I go home. I would like to know what it was all about.

This is looking down into Cholame Valley. The San Andreas fault runs up though the middle of it. Were on the Coalinga/Parkfield grade. Not recommend to travel on during the wet season.

This is the USGS seismic lab at Menlo Park where Dr. David Oppenheimer gave Petra and I a tour. We spent the better part of the day there talk, asking questions, and getting answers. We had a great time.

This is the tree kill area at Mammoth Lakes. The trees are about 250 years old and it is about the time the last volcanic eruption occurred in the past in the general area. The trees started dying in 1995 when CO2 started venting in the area.

This is just a small part of what Petra and I have been seeing and going to over the years. To see more you can check the link on our web site. You need to read Petra's blog. She has spent a lot of time and research for it. You may also like to read mine.

We don't travel as much as we use to as I have had two heart attacks and the mileage is taking its toll on the body. Petra has had to slow down a bit as well. She has had 18 inches of her colon removed for cancer and her thyroid gland removed for cancer. I came to the conclusion many years ago that its not the age that gets you, but that it's the mileage. Take Care...Don

I miss hearing from people who have visited these large sites in which such action has happened. Thanks for reminiscing. I visited CA about 7 times and lived there for 8 months. I continually felt that something was about to rattle and it gave me an uneasy feeling while I was there. But at this time, "here" is "there" is "everywhere" ! Activity is so rampant that now even the other coast over here expects the angry crust to throw us curves. confused

Don, your comment was appropriate, your pictures were great, and I'd add another twist to your mention about "mileage" :
The mileage does rack up when, in my head, the adrenaline is constantly running to beat a possible new threat.

Seems like you, Don, were the proactive do-er and me just the worrier. I think you've just shared a few moments of a great ride.
