Earthworm Major Exodus!!! Empty Earthworm Major Exodus!!!

SW Missouri, experiencing at several different locations a major earthworm exodus.

Why this is significant is, if you want to catch earthworms...you put a metal stake into the ground and pound on it and the vibrations drive them upward. My mother and several of her coworkers noticed this at different locations today so she just called me to tell me.

Nextly, Oklahoma has activated again and it seems that it has been doing this prior to a New Madrid of almost equal magnitude.

    Anyway, it's worth noting.

This is from an article I just read. Dr. Ikeya is a scientist who studies this topic:

(Interviewer)David: What motivated you to start studying the relationship between unusual animal behavior and earthquakes?

Dr. Ikeya: The Kobe earthquake in 1995. I live 30 km from the epicenter and thought it strange that many earthworms dug themselves up in my small garden. At the time, I did not know the legend that a number of emerging earthworms is a sign of a large earthquake. Many people noticed this, including my neighbors.

Thanks for the report, Rose! I have heard stories about earth worms doing this prior to a large quake. Will have to keep an eye on the New Madrid. Exclamation

    Rose,

Did you read the article online? If so, may we have the link please? It makes a lot sense and it will be very interesting to see what happens. We've had earthworms on top of the ground here as well (Texas-DFW) I had attributed it to all the rain we have had but might think differently about it now. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Please stay safe.

    Hi Rose and Melinda,

I had the city garden version of the big dig yesterday while I transplanted perennials and the earthworms were rushing as usual to get away from me and the spade by scurrying deeper and away from the excavations I was doing. (Some of those perennial plants have DEEP roots.)

Have a happy day. What you plant today -- may you reap sunflowers flower instead of skunk cabbage. Bless your work today, all !
