Is it me, or is California looking a bit too quiet despite all of the global activity?? I would have expected to see some higher 3's and 4's after everything the last few days, but instead it seems like something is stuck as not even many micro's are popping off. At least compared to what I usually think I see.

Yeah it is...in comparison to everywhere else. I had a dream 3wks ago indicating LA for EQ and TS in spring...when roses were blooming and shrubs budding.

I dunno
I'm seeing a lot of peppering of micros, in fact it sort of picked up after the Chile event.
Look in and around Hollister, Olancha and Riverside. Even the San Jacinto is more peppered than usual. very small rumblings, many M1.0+, yet the antipode in china is quiet.
So interesting to follow the action. why is it like it is?

I do see that.. Marc, maybe you know.. Why is the L.A. and Ventura County region so sparse in activity? I've always noticed that most of the time, it seems like there's no quakes in these areas. Are the faults in these areas just not as active as other faults like the San Jacinto?
Also, I'm in love with your pup. I've decided I want one now! But, I was checking them out and wow.. What pricey babies they are! OT, I know, but had to throw that in

There is nothing and I do mean nothing in the LA area. Usually we have some small ones but this is completely blank. I haven't seen that before, but I don't look at the map every single day either.
I hope that doesn't mean that something bad is going to happen. Last night around 6pm, again, I heard the "boom, boom" that I have been hearing during the past week. I don't know what it is. Even dad heard it last night and looked at me and we both were like "WTF is that?" Very strange. I haven't heard that kind of noise before. It is almost like a muffled shuttle landing. You know that double sonic boom you get before they land at EAB, well that is what this sounds like, only like I said, muffled. I also notice that it always happens in the pm rather than the am. Don't know why that would be either. Just like when I was on the phone with you on Saturday and I heard the "boom, boom" but I thought it was distant thunder. I know that there were no storms around our area last night so that couldn't be it either.
Something is a foot. I just wish I knew what it was.

LA area
I've seen it last year. We were quiet for a week then we started poping again up to a couple of the 3's in the santa barbara channel and smaller ones in the LA area. I think that is when we had a 3.2 here in oxnard.

Mike, This reminds me how we were discussing how quiet it was last week or so, and then BAM Chile hit....I'm not saying it's a repetative cycle since one hasn't been established yet, but it always feels to me like pressure must be building somewhere during these times before it releases, whether it's a bunch of small movements (hopefully) or a Chile size event.....After reading about the prediction of 5 more to come and being the year that it is, I can't help but keep an eye out.Mike T wrote:I've seen it last year. Very quiet in California
I have been watching this too! I totally agree it is too quiet here. Usually many small micro quakes on the map LIST daily. Where are all the small micro quakes? Doesn't make sense. There is only 30 quakes listed for the whole state since midnight last night!
