While browsing Google Earth in the vicinity of the Chile 8.8 earthquake, I found something interesting, a hole in the Pacific Ocean Floor. It is 28.46 miles and 230.91 degrees from the location of the earthquake. The surrounding seabed is about 1200 feet below the surface. The hole according to Google Earth drops to 19,255 feet below sea level, just over 3.6 miles down. At about 4,000 feet below sea level the hole is 2.91 miles across. Any one heard of this or got any comments about a hole 3.6 miles deep and about 3 miles across?

Hole in the Pacific
First, good to see you Melinda/Dove, sure missed you!!!
Second, Bill...is this the spot you meant?
36 deg.06'20.08"S 73deg.06'51.93"W I found a depth of -18896 ft. on the NE edge of the hole (closest to land). Wonder what else is down there? Don't know how to find more information on this spot.

Hi Jean ...
Here's the lat/long for the -19255 "hole" or "flush-drain"
36° 6.362'S 73° 6.845'W
It is on the extreme southeast portion of the darkest area.

Re: Hole in Pacific Ocean Floor
Wow! What a trip...just went to the underwater view...like looking down the throat of a whale, I guess, never did that. Wonder where to find information about it, if anyone has such posted. Thanks Bill for finding that, we were looking at the same hole, just different portions of it.
